Dear all, Kindly reminder! (with apologise for cross-postings)
One-day workshop on mathematical modelling in biology and medicine
Date : Tuesday 29th November 2016 Location: 20.5 Time : 10am to 5.30pm
There will be a one-day workshop on Tuesday 29th November with presentations covering the applications of mathematical modelling in the areas of mathematical biology and medicine (interpreted in a broad sense). The `keynote' speakers are:
Professor John Murray (UNSW and Cancer Research Division, NSW Cancer Council)
Dr Kara Perrow (UoW) (Targeted Cancer Therapeutics Laboratory, Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute).
There will be 15 supporting presentations. Topics covered include:
- cancer, with an emphasis on using viruses to kill cancer cells
- cell growth, with applications in tissue engineering
- cell migration
- controlled drug delivery
- epidemiology (influenza, rsv, smoking)
- grandmothers - why do we have them?
- the lymphatic vascular system
- positron emission tomography
Presentations will be aimed at a `general audience'. The emphasis is placed on the problem being investigated and the insights that mathematical modelling provides. Speakers are encouraged to avoid gory mathematical details!
Although the workshop is free, please register via the link provided in the workshop web page.
Please RSVP for catering purposes by Wednesday 23rd November at 5pm (late registrations will be accepted!)
