Title: Generic Group Model

Abstract: Many cryptography systems rely on the computational complexity of discrete logarithm and related problems. This seminar is intended to discuss the "generic group model" introduced by Shoup  in 1997 that analyses the hardness of those computational problems. In the generic group model, all group elements are encoded into random unique binary strings with group operations only and no special proprieties of the group elements exploited. The lower bounds on the complexity of above problems can be calculated in the generic group model. In addition, the generic group model with bilinear pairing operations ("generic bilinear group model") is also discussed.?
