Centre for Geomechanics and Railway Engineering (CGRE) PhD candidate, Mr Sinniah Navaratnarajah (Nava), has received engineering excellence award from the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL), New South Wales Chapter at the IESL NSW Engineers' Nite 2016 held at Hornsby RSL Club (Hornsby, NSW).
Nava was the winner for the "best innovation and/or invention" category award for his submission on "Shock mats made of recycled tyre waste to enhance the stability of ballasted rail track".
The Award Evaluation Panel shortlisted Nava's submission for a presentation at the IESL annual engineering conference held at the Engineers Australia auditorium, Chatswood NSW on 10th June 2016. The presentation was well received by a packed audience of university researchers and industry practitioners of NSW and the winners were announced at the gala dinner.
