Dr Sifer graduated with his BSc (Computing Science) from the University of NSW, Sydney in 1983 and then received his MAppSc (Software Engineering) from the University of Technology, Sydney in 1988. Dr Sifer continued his studies at UTS and received his PhD (Software Engineering) in 1996.
After three years as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at Hiroshima University, Dr Sifer left academia in 2001 and joined IBM Research in Haifa, Israel and also spent time with CSC Australia.
Dr Sifer joined the University of Sydney as a lecturer in 2002 and subsequently joined the University of Wollongong in 2005 in the same role. His long standing interest has been in the design of user interfaces for the exploration of various kinds of complex data.
