Dr Ashkan Masouman is an economist, specialised in econometric modelling and input-output analysis at the regional level. As an early career researcher, Ashkan is vigorously building a reputation by participating and presenting his research at economics and regional science conferences across all continents.
Prior to his fellowship at SMART, he joined University of Wollongong to pursue his doctorate. He was one of the only two PhD students from School of Accounting, Economics and Finance to be awarded a SMART scholarship to pursue his research. In his doctoral thesis, he developed a dynamic inter-sectoral model to investigate the Illawarra economy.
Before joining University of Wollongong, Ashkan worked as an investment consultant in Dubai real estate market and as an analyst (equity research) in Dubai equity market. He is currently responsible for building a large-scale econometric input-output model to investigate the Illawarra economy. He uses this model to inspect the impact of various aspects of the regional economy, such as infrastructure, energy sector, etc. on the overall economy.
